Following the success of the first, we are inviting you to join us and take part in the second instalment of the Camberwell Press pub quiz, with categories such as: Typography, Animation, Illustration, Film and more to question your creative mental knowledge. 

Created by Brighten the Corners, 'I used to be a design student' is a new publication that looks at the fundamental change from studying design at university to establishing a career in the arts. The launch of the book opens at Camberwell College of Arts next Monday 18^th February as the books content was inspired by a workshop Brighten the Corners led with Camberwell graphic design students.

Frank Philippin and Billy Kiosoglou met whilst studying graphic design and have worked together on Brighten the Corners since graduating from the Royal College of Art in London in 1999. Following the launch of the book Frank and Billy are to lead two workshops for the current Camberwell BA Graphic Design course at Camberwell College of Arts to complete the full circle, returning to the source of inspiration for the project.

Camberwell Press is pleased to present 'Let's Get Quizzical: Design Pub Quiz' at The Tiger, Camberwell Green, 26 February from 7.30pm. The evening will be brought to you with our special guest host Jim the Illustrator as the compere. There will be categories of Typography, Animation, Illustration, Film and more to question your creative knowledge with picture rounds, font anagrams and multiple choices. Illustration and fine art print goodies to be won! Come down, drink beer, and compete.

971 Horses and 4 Zebras is an exhibition at Wimbledon Space of artists' films that focus on labour intensive animation techniques as part of contemporary practice. The exhibition showcases a wide variety of approach and style with 15 animation artists involved. A coinciding screening and panel discussion at Tate Modern Starr auditorium will take place on Thursday 29 November.

Camberwell Press published a fold out booklet designed by Work-Form for the exhibition that runs from 2 November to 9 December at Wimbledon Space.

Alt/Shift is a one day conference driven by university lecturers and design directors in creative industries who are challenged to examine the future of design education. Camberwell Press director Darryl Clifton is one of the speakers for the event. Discussions at Alt-Shift derive from topics that have come to the attention of design graduates, practioners and tutors; such as instigating the business like methods that have potential to coexist within a creative degree. As well as discussing the importance of communicating and building relationships in design industries with the emphasis on collaboration.

Mokita's second illustration forum will explore 'The Sentimental Gene' in illustration, covering themes of presence, function, validity, and the role of 'sentimentality' as a medium in illustration. Mokita is founded by Camberwell Press director Darryl Clifton, sparking discussion and educating our illustration theories with leading practitioner speakers.

Founded by Camberwell Press' creative director, James Edgar, Whatever Next: a discourse in typography is an exhibition and book launch pioneered from a series of in-conversations taken place in selected locations across London in June 2011. The discussions look at the life span of typography, how it has evolved in print, process and practise, furthermore, what direction it might hold for the future. Conversations were recorded and transcribed to devise the content of the book Whatever Next: a discourse on typography. Launch of the book takes place at Kemistry Gallery, EC2A 3PD on 4 October with an corresponding exhibition compiling of contributors visual response to the discussions.

Prompted by the articulate and sympathetic writing on curator Glenn Adamson's blog, From Sketch to Product, we asked the man himself, along with designer Kirsty Carter of APFEL and architect Andy Groarke of Carmody Groarke to come in and discuss their working processes behind the recent V&A exhibition, Postmodernism: Style and Subversion 1970-1990. They discussed with generosity the conditions which made their cross disciplinary and experimental exhibition design possible, a suitable fitting for the final day of Into the Fold. We have included here an edited extract from that discussion.

Day 8 focused on the broader context of graphic design, its field of inspiration, and application. Merrell Publishers delivered a talk on the process of publishing, from decision to reality, Rick Poynor let us in to the surreal world that informs his practice and Fraser Muggeridge selected a series of films that encapsulated his opinion of film as an essential source of content in design. 

Day three was small in numbers, but gigantic in content.  We spent the morning in self-assessment, evaluation, and the afternoon in a skype discussion with Michèle Champagne of That New Design Smell, in which she delivered a talk all the way from Toronto, beaming into the studio in Camberwell.  She has kindly provided us with a summary of that talk, after the jump.

The second day of Into the Fold brought more wealth of content and discussion. It saw Phil Baines give a talk about Grotesque typefaces and then a letterpress demonstration, Sam Winston running an interactive drawing project and Lynda Brockbank discussing the 99 Words project. 

The first day of Into the Fold saw the fruits of an open discussion between Department 21, the construction of gigantic Word Sculptures by Philip Li and a talk with Brave New Alps about their Construction Site project.
